Welcome to our farm

History of TJ Farms

We would like to share a little of our story with you.

The farm house on the property was built in 1937 by Doctor Lloyd Landis. He was a professor of Industrial Arts at California State University Chico.

The house and thirty five acres of land was purchased by Doctor Marvin and Sue Moss in 1952. Dr. Moss had two sons, David and Jerry. He was a dentist for the community surrounding Chico.

David Moss was in high school when he planted the farm into walnuts in 1960. After David’s military service and tour to Vietnam, David and Mary Moss returned to the farm and had two sons Tim and John.

TJ Farms grew almonds, walnuts, kiwi fruit, and much much more over the years. David and Mary started a pumpkin patch to help their sons earn money for college in the late 1980’s. In 1987, the family was farming 300 acres with some of the property near the Sacramento River.

The flood of 1983 and 1987 had put the farm in financial hardship. In 1991, all the land except the home piece of fifteen acres was sold and given up to pay off some of the debt incurred by the floods.

TJ Farms moved the pumpkin patch to the home piece in 1992 and has strived to grow quality fruits and vegetables for the community.

In the summer of 2007, Tim and Sarah Moss started a youth development camp. Farm Camp was a creation to teach youth a little about the ways of farming and where their food comes from. Tim and Sarah Moss had three sons, Michael (proudly showing us his tractor), Scott, and Thomas. Our family has a long life in agriculture in Northern California and want nothing more to share this experience of the farm with others.

The Moss family is working hard to offer new products and programs on the farm. It is the community’s support that keeps our family business here in the area and growing a positive future for all. For that, we thank YOU and please visit us soon!
